  Directorate of Rural Sanitation, J&K was established in October, 1989 under the administrative control of Department of Rural Development and Panchayati Raj with the objective for giving the emphasis on Rural sanitation in order to improve the quality of life of the rural people and also to provide privacy to dignity to women under Swachh Bharat Mission (Grameen). As a result, the rural sanitation coverage increased from 23 per cent in 2014 to 100 per cent in 2018 with over 1091731 No. of toilets built across erstwhile J&K State after Baseline Survey (BLS 2012) and 1418051 No. of toilets built including Baseline survey (BLS). J&K was declared ODF on 15 th Sept, 2018.

Government of India launched SBM-G Phase-II in February, 2020 which shall be implemented in mission mode from 2020-21 to 2024-25.The key objectives of SBM-G phase II is to sustain ODF status of villages and to improve the level of cleanliness in rural areas through Solid, Liquid Waste Management activities. An ODF+ village is a village, which sustains its open defection free (ODF) status, ensures SLWM and is visually clean. For more and latest information please do visit at officially website ....
